A Religious Custom Guitar

How strange that the word custom can mean totally opposite things: long-practiced tradition in one use, and then one-of-a-kind in another. Here are both in a holiday sentence:

imageDuring last night’s radical reimagining of ancient Jewish custom, frontman for synagogue rockers Black Shabbat squirted one day’s worth of lighter fluid onto his custom Fender Stratocaster (the guitar’s fretless and biodegradable construction being a high-concept kosher nod to death metal). Needless to say, the guitar didn’t last a single night.

Tonight’s Hanukkah service welcomes a performance of ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic’s new guitar project Oy Vey Malmsteen.
